Celebrating the life and poetry of Scotland’s national bard : Fortnum’s first supper club of 2015 will take place on Saturday 24 January
Tomorrow night, Fortnum & Mason will host the famous Burns’ Supper in the much-loved Fountain Restaurant at their Piccadilly home. A celebration of the life and work of Robert Burns, guests will enjoy a superb traditional menu, accompanied by poetry, music, witty toasts and the best wines. This is a date when everyone will discover there’s more than a little Scot in their make-up.
In keeping with tradition, the evening will begin with the Selkirk Grace, the solemn and triumphant procession of the haggis, its address, and the surrender of the steaming delicacy to the plunging dirk. There will then be a five-course meal, featuring the choicest Caledonian cheeses, homemade oatcakes, and superb wines and whiskies. And of course, there will be entertainment throughout, as rich and high-spirited as the poetry the bard is renowned for.
So, reserve your table, dust down your kilt, and join us for a wonderful celebration of the life and work of Scotland’s favourite son.

In December 2011, Madame Tussauds London marked the 250th Birthday of founder, Marie Tussaud, by throwing a celebrity party in her honour. Her wax figure (first created in 1842) was joined by some contemporary residents of her legendary attraction. Her Majesty The Queen, Prime Minister David Cameron, celebrity “Royalty” David and Victoria Beckham, Dame Helen Mirren and Russell Brand joined Madame Tussaud in a party scene. To mark the momentous birthday, the attraction also announced a crop of new faces for 2012:
- Taylor Lautnerwill join his ‘Twilight’ co-star, British actor Robert Pattinson, in the A-List Party at the attraction in January. The American heartthrob was one of the most requested personalities in 2011. At present our sculptors are hard at work on his figure (see picture below).
- Tom Daley the British sports star will dive into the attraction with a dramatic action figure in February. Suspended at a height it will capture him in mid-dive as he soars from the diving board towards the water.
- The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge will join the Royal line up to celebrate their first Wedding Anniversary in early April.
- Her Majesty the Queen: A stunning new figure of Her Majesty will be revealed to mark the Diamond Jubilee in June. The new figure will replace the current one, created in 1992 and it will be the 23rd figure of the Queen; she was first featured as a toddler back in the 1930’s.
Madame Tussauds Studios London has been making wax figures for over 150 years. Each masterpiece takes four months, and a team of 20 dedicated sculptors, to create. Over 500 precise body measurements are referenced, real head hairs are inserted one by one, and countless layers of paints and tints are applied to build up skin tones – all to achieve the kind of astonishing realism that has kept Madame Tussauds world renowned for over two centuries.
Full details of each figure launch will be announced in the media as they happen.
